ABOUT OUR LAUNCH

For over a decade a disparate group of creatives from film, tv, digital, and gaming met a couple times a year to conceptualize, commiserate, and compare notes. During this time, a fervent wish was born. “One day we will combine forces and open our own production company,” we all declared. But no one really believed that that it would ever happen. The more successful we became in our individual careers, the more unlikely the dream seemed. After all, what executive leaves their career to start the equivalent of a rock band at 55? Maybe we were just too old to start all over again.

Then the pandemic hit. Film and tv production slammed to a halt. Everyone was stuck in lockdown. And we all started reevaluating our lives. Those couple times a year, in-person meetings now became weekly zoom calls, then daily zoom calls. We worked together on passion projects that had been pushed to the sidelines, fantasized about show and game concepts that we would love to be able to create, and hashed out the blueprint of our idea of the perfect production firm.

When it came time to go back to work, we were too far into the development of our own studio to look back. But, we all had contracts to honor and work to complete. One by one, we wrapped up, gave notice, and set our caps to making the dream a reality.

In May we-soft launched, brought our unfinished passion projects with us, and started producing a series of documentaries, tv shows, streaming content, and both mobile and console games under our own banner.

Thirty years or more after many of us started in the industry, more than a decade after that first boozey networking meeting, and three years after our first zoom call, on August 1, 2023, we will officially launch 5 Things Studios. - Alex
