CASTING NOTICES
About Our Productions
5Things Studios develops and produces documentary, narrative, and digital series focused on intelligent, character-driven storytelling and socially relevant subjects. Our projects range from short-form and vertical series to long-form documentary and scripted formats intended for festival, streaming, and broadcast distribution, globally.
We operate with professional production standards, clear contracts, organized schedules, and transparent communication. Our goal is to build long-term creative relationships with serious talent.
Union Status -
All current productions are paid non-union.
We structure projects so they can convert to the appropriate SAG-AFTRA agreement (Micro, New Media, Low Budget, or other qualifying contract) when financing and distribution require it.
Union members should confirm eligibility with SAG-AFTRA and their agent before accepting work.
We intend to become a signatory on qualifying projects as they move into formal distribution and financing. Our productions are structured to transition smoothly to union agreements when required.
Compensation -
All roles are paid.
Compensation varies by project, role, and production scope and is disclosed in each individual casting notice. No unpaid or speculative roles are offered.
Contracts are provided for all performers and on-camera talent.
Professional Standards -
We are committed to:
Written agreements
Clear scheduling
Timely payments
Safe and respectful sets
Nudity, intimacy, and stunts are disclosed in the breakdown and only proceed with written consent and on-set protocols.
If a role involves a minor, a parent or guardian and any required work permits must be in place before work begins.
Organized production management
Confidential handling of materials
All productions follow established industry best practices.
Auditions & Submissions -
Most projects use self-tape and remote auditions initially, with final in-person auditions.
When a self-tape is requested, we aim to give at least 48-hours from sides to deadline.
Callback location and whether travel is covered are stated in each notice. Unless noted, performers are expected to be local to the production or to cover their own travel.
We only accept submissions for a specific role.
Submission requirements typically include:
Headshot or professional photo
Resume or credits (if available)
Self-tape (when requested)
Slate with name and location
Specific instructions and suggested readings are included in each casting breakdown.
Incomplete submissions may not be reviewed.
Equal Opportunity Policy -
5Things Studios is committed to inclusive casting practices and evaluates performers based on suitability, skill, and professional standards.
We welcome submissions from performers of all backgrounds, consistent with project requirements.
Casting Instructions
Initial casting is done through the submission of a self-tape audition. A successful self-tape for 5things Studios has the following elements:
Good lighting – a light ring, light box, or natural light is fine, we just want to be able to see your face clearly.
Clear sound – most phones have a built-in camera that works fine. Try to record in an area without a lot of background noise.
Personality – having a good reading partner can really help, but our goal is to see the personality of the character.
We don’t care if you record on your cell phone or on a zoom call. You don’t need to buy expensive equipment or pay for a studio production. We simply want to see your face, hear your voice, and feel your personality.
Once you have created a self-tape, submit it by following the instructions on the casting notice email.
Callbacks will get an in-person audition.
